Marvin the martian spaceship4/25/2023 ![]() Lee runs the Haughton-Mars Project, an analog research facility on Devon Island, an uninhabited, barren Arctic outpost in Nunavut, Canada. That relevance can take the form of geological formations, like lava tubes or sand dunes, or it can be a whole region with lunar or Martian flair, like the Atacama Desert in Chile or volcanoes in Hawaii.ĭr. The most direct arrow between this world and those beyond is the “terrestrial analogue,” a physical location on Earth that resembles some aspect of another world - usually the moon or Mars. “It actually makes a lot of sense why planetary scientists, whose phenomena are removed in time and space, would think that simulation and replication would be how they could still study that which is remote,” said Lisa Messeri, an anthropologist at Yale University and the author of the book “Placing Outer Space,” “because that’s what science has been doing for hundreds of years.” □□ Their methods are in keeping with scientific traditions that value both laboratory-based research and direct contact with nature. “And so there’s something very fundamental to the approach of using analogues.” “Throughout science, we reason by comparison all the time,” said Pascal Lee of the Mars and SETI institutes. In making the untouchable physical and the abstract concrete, they are creating not just similes but ways to conceive of these planets as actual places. ![]() In these simulacra, they see, feel and control worlds - or at least metaphors for them - in an attempt to decipher parts of the universe they’ll likely never visit. Planetary and exoplanetary scientists, for instance, don’t just wait for data to come to them: They also construct miniature versions of other places using convenient geological landscapes, gravel crushers and simulation chambers on Earth. These objects are fixed, and their conditions cannot be tweaked.īut that’s not how all astronomy works. Taking what they can get, they passively receive information about far-off stars and planets. Acdsee duplicate finder only custom4/25/2023 I know there is a bunch of image viewers with more than it takes to manage the every day needs of the average family guy. I just want to make clear that I am not trying to start a war here. (I am a qualified graphic designer so I know about this knid of stuff).Īlso, I like the ability to have the Favorites list in AcDsee allways visible. Plus, I've noticed that converting images to JPG AcDsee beats gimp and photoshop hard! I don know how they made it but I can achieve smaller sized files with much better quality. It has the best of both worlds and still it is quick to load. Remember these are supposed to be viewers not complete suites - Well, this is what makes AcDsee 9 so cool. Again, this makes it very powerfull and fast. ![]() For version 9 they managed to make it customizable so you only load what you really need, the other tools are always available on demand and they load fast too. Versions of AcDsee 3 to 8 sucked hard because they were slow and bloated. Photoscape, irfanview, xnview and faststone are way better than acdsee - GIVE ME A BREAK!!! Maybe you tested AcDsee v2 or v3 10 years ago. Image editing in gThumb - Years behind the tools included in AcDsee 9. Very annoying when you are copying a folder with 100+ duplicate names. Yes, and you have to enter manually each new name. AcDsee lets you define and combine several image sizes, dpi resampling, paper sizes, margins, several printing layouts, etc. This makes it very fast, yet powerful.Īdvanced printing options. You can customize which modules to install or to load each time you open AcDsee. Not acceptable.ĪcDsee loading all the advanced editing stuff to show up in the image viewer. GThumb hangs when I try to load a directory with many large pics. this ones provides fairly fast image viewing and some rather handy/power editing tools.īy the way, in windows, photoscape, irfanview, xnview and faststone are way better than acdsee. Simple (yet very useful) image editing, without having to open Photoshop or Gimp. Supports customizing actions, like renaming, when copying files to a folder with duplicate names (I love this one because my camera always starts naming pictures from IMG0001.jpg). (remember these are supposed to be viewers not complete suites)Īdvanced printing options. yesĪdvanced and automatic color, contrast, etc correction features.not so "advanced" bbut works for most quick retouching. i dunno if fast enough for u :PĪdvanced resize, rotate and convert features. ![]() (not by double click but still fullscreen)Īdvanced rename, and sort options. If any one has had any success in finding (or developing) a real contender for AcdSee (v9, v10, or Pro) please let me know!!!ĭouble click for real full screen (black background, no tool bars). KDE is like a Fisher Price or Gymboree-like environment (sorry for those KDE users, it's just my opinion). I cannot stand the big blue icons of the KDE theme everywhere. ![]() I'm not going to move 10 Gigs of well organized photo folders just because digiKam wants to create its own albums. ![]() Its inability to browse folders (that's so dumb!). Still I would be willing to use it if it wasn't for: It lacks a lot of the features and ease of use I'm looking for. So far the best software I've used in ubuntu is digiKam, but it's still years behind AcDsee. They may be enough for mommies who want to sort a few pictures of the last vacation, but they are definitely not suited for power users. Everything in the same program.Īll the software packages I've tried in Ubuntu are just too basic (gThumb, fSpot, even infraviw through wine). In a few words, AcDsee has a lot of very advanced and useful features, yet they managed to make it easy to use. I love AcdSee 9, some of the features I like about it (and I use them a lot!) are:ĭouble click for real full screen (black background, no tool bars).Īdvanced resize, rotate and convert features.Īdvanced and automatic color, contrast, etc correction features.

Andy griffith wives4/24/2023 ![]() Griffith returned to comedy with a feature film version of "No Time for Sergeants" (1958), working again with Knotts, then returned to the stage and earned another Tony nomination for his performance in the musical "Destry Rides Again" (1960). In his first film role, Griffith arguably never again turned in such a powerful performance playing such a dark character. Written by "On the Waterfront" (1954) screenwriter Budd Schulberg, the film was based on the alleged onstage phoniness of Will Rogers and Arthur Godfrey. Griffith played Larry "Lonesome" Rhodes, an Arkansas drifter who is plucked out of obscurity and finds fame as a television host, but whose friendly, folksy charm is cover for scheming ambition for political power. He soon caught the eye of acclaimed film director Elia Kazan, who cast him in a startling dramatic role in "A Face in the Crowd" (1957). He reprised the role on Broadway the following year, earning a Tony nomination for his performance, and was joined onstage by a young comic actor named Don Knotts, with whom Griffith would enjoy a lengthy professional and personal relationship. He was soon tapped to play the lead role in the United States Steel Hour presentation of the Ira Levin play, "No Time for Sergeants" (ABC, 1955). Griffith honed the monologue to perfection and performed it in one of his four appearances on "The Ed Sullivan Show" (CBS, 1948-1971). The skit was released on a record album in 1953. After three years of teaching, Griffith and his first wife, Barbara Edwards, began developing comedy and music routines that they performed on the road, including a comedy monologue called "What it Was, Was Football," a first-person point of view of a simple farm boy's first bewildering experience watching a football game. ![]() After graduation, he became a music teacher at Goldsboro High School, but still yearned to perform professionally. While in college, his focus turned again to the arts with an emphasis on music and theater, and he eventually earned his degree in 1949. First hoping to become an opera singer, he shifted gears and set out to become a preacher, enrolling at the University of Chapel Hill in North Carolina as a pre-divinity student. ![]() Airy, NC, Griffith developed a strong interest and talent in music at an early age. Often exerting strong creative control over his efforts, Griffith brought a sense of realism, charm and honesty to his shows and characters that managed to never stray into caricature, and whose appeal endured for generations of viewers.īorn on June 1, 1926, in Mt. Meanwhile, over the course of his career, Griffith returned to his first love of music and won a Grammy for a 1997 gospel album. Following several spin-offs of "Andy Griffith" throughout the decades, he reprised his stardom as "Matlock" and made many noted guest appearances well into the new millennium. He was a regular on "The Steve Allen Show" (1956-1964) before introducing Sheriff Andy Taylor alongside Ron Howard's Opie on the seventh season of "The Danny Thomas Show" (1953-1964). Griffith turned to television with "No Time for Sergeants" (1955) - a role he reprised for the 1958 film of the same name - and made his feature debut with a thunderous dramatic performance as a manipulative, power-hungry grifter who becomes a television host in Elia Kazan's "A Face in the Crowd" (1957). Sun" and the woodsy "What it Was, Was Football" (1953), one of the most popular recorded monologues of all time. But instead he rose to fame as a monologist, delivering a parody of the Johnny Ray song "Please Mr. Prior to becoming a friendly face in many American living rooms, Griffith was a talented musician with early aspirations to be an opera singer. With his folksy, down-to-earth charm and winning smile, actor Andy Griffith brought a warm sincerity to his most popular roles - small-town Sheriff Andy Taylor on "The Andy Griffith Show" (CBS, 1960-68) and the crafty southern lawyer Ben Matlock on "Matlock" (NBC/ABC, 1986-1995).

The game features several new weapons, such as a crossbow and a variety of new firearms such as submachine guns and revolvers. Players can use them to travel across the game's world quickly and mow down enemies. One of the new features introduced is a drivable dune buggy. Players can use parkour movements, such as climbing ledges, leaping, sliding, jumping and zip-lining, to move between places and kill enemies. Set in a map that is twice as large as the two previous maps of Dying Light, The Following's gameplay is similar to that of the main game where the infected are slow and fragile during daytime, and become aggressive and fast at night time. |
